About Jay Valentine

Jay Angel Valentine (b. 2000) is a contemporary artist living in Seattle, WA, where he works as a visual artist, creative director, model, and content creator. Jay’s focus is oil and acrylic painting, and he primarily uses imagery from his own life. He has experience working with sculpture, printmaking, film photography, video, and performance as well. His current body of work looks to demystify sex, love, and intimacy between trans bodies.

Jay’s current work deals with themes of gender, identity, love, sexuality, the human experience, and the duality of masculinity and femininity. His work aims to disrupt preconceived notions about the gender binary, and inserting the trans identity into traditionally cis-heteronormative space. He unapologetically embraces his queer identity through his art and the things he creates. Although his work speaks to the niche experience of living as a transmasculine individual, he encourages viewers of all backgrounds to identify with the raw, emotional nature of pure self expression. Jay’s art aims to connect with viewers by relating his own unique identity to the greater human experience. He is currently looking to expand his body of work to a larger scale.

As he moves further into the world of curation and creative direction, Jay seeks to provide further opportunities in the art world for transgender artists to grow and thrive.
